Hopes for a new Jewish "Sovereignty” to co-exist within the State of Israel
January 13, 2006
A spirited political rally was held Wednesday, January 11, 2006 to present the Judea Initiative to the Israeli public. Led by Yekutiel Ben Yaacov bus loads of Israeli settlers arrived in Jerusalem from Judea and Samaria to advocate for a second Jewish sovereignty to co-exist within the current State of Israel.
Distrustful of the Israeli political leadership and hopeful for a new beginning of Jewish security and solidarity, the group is actively pursuing a second sovereignty within the areas of Judea and Samaria.
Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria are concerned that the Israeli government will eventually hand over control of these areas to the Palestinians and call for a Jewish withdrawal similar to what recently transpired in the Gaza. These residents refuse to sit by idly and let the Israeli politicians give away their homes and land to the sworn enemies of the Jewish people.
These residents view the Gaza withdrawal as an utter failure by the Israeli government to secure the desired peace. Since the Israeli withdrawal in September the residents of neighboring Israeli cities have been under a constant barrage of missile and mortar fire from the Gaza. We only handed the terrorists a base of operation from which to fire their rockets exclaimed one resident attending the rally.
In an effort to keep the same thing from happening from within Judea and Samaria these Israeli citizens are attempting to offer the Israeli public an alternative.
Yekutiel Ben Yaacov gave three main purposes why the Jewish people need a second Jewish Authority in Judea and Samaria.
Judea and Samaria is commonly called the "West Bank." The settlers of Judea and Samaria denounce this name because it denotes Arab sovereignty by calling this area the "West Bank" of the nation of Jordan. Judea and Samaria have been a sovereign part of the State of Israel since the Six Day War of 1967 and are not the "West Bank" of the nation of Jordan.
Much international pressure has been placed upon Israel recently to relinquish this area to Palestinian control, but the majority of the hundreds of thousands of Jewish residents object.
Whether or not this movement realizes its goals of establishing a second Jewish Authority is yet to be seen, but one thing is made abundantly clear: These Jewish citizens of Israel are unwilling to relinquish their land to Israels most adamant foe.

Yekutiel Ben Yaacov gave three main purposes why the Jewish people need a second Jewish Authority in Judea and Samaria.
- A new Jewish Authority is needed to protect Israel from terror and enhance Israeli security by creating a buffer between the Palestinians and Israel. Instead of just a Palestinian Authority in Judea and Samaria a new Jewish Authority could act independently of Israel and protect the State of Israel from further attacks.
- A new Jewish Authority would also relieve the tension between fellow Jews by halting the withdrawal of Jewish citizens in Judea and Samaria. Many of the settlers have stated that they would defend their homes and land with their very lives even against the Israeli Defense Forces. The new Jewish Authority would save Jewish lives by not pitting brother against brother in the event of a forced withdrawal.
- This new Jewish Authority would most importantly provide a sovereign entity ruled by Torah law. To create a government ran upon the principles laid down in the Jewish scriptures, a haven for many religious Jews.
