Peres: The world is pregnant with the ‘New Age'
January 20, 2007
Shimon Peres, Vice Prime Minister of Israel, eloquently confided in conference attendees this week that "The world is pregnant…pregnant with the New Age." The Center for Strategic Dialogue of Netanya Academic College held a conference this week on "Third Party involvement on the Middle East Peace process". Vice PM Shimon Peres was one of many distinguished speakers.
Vice PM Peres stated that in order for the situation in the Middle East to improve it should "build for the first time in the Middle East a scientific economy that will serve all the people. That won't cost the governments a penny. That can mobilize money that is available, global money which is floating in the air, for that we have to change our minds."
For example, "China was changed not because an army invaded it and India was changed not because a wise diplomat arrived there, but because they adopted the call of the New Age."
According to Vice PM Peres peace is achieved by economic partnerships that benefit all parties involved. He was referring to an ongoing project between Jordan, Israel and the Palestinians of re-supplying the dwindling water levels of the Dead Sea with water from the Red Sea. By taking advantage of outside economic investments the project could become a real success not only for the governments involved, but also for the worldwide economy.
When governments are involved in joint revenue generating ventures they are less likely to disagree on political issues for fear of disrupting the money supply. The more economic ties between neighboring countries the fewer disagreements they will have.
Vice PM Peres made it clear that political negotiations were important, but true peace will only be achieved when countries change their minds and accept the ‘New Age' of economic partnerships.
He ended a very stirring speech with "The world is pregnant…pregnant with the New Age and the sooner and deeper and seriously we should accept it, I believe, the chances for peace both political and economic will grow to reasonable height."
